Bodystockings, or body stockings as some people sometimes call them, have gained remarkable popularity in recent years.
Bodystockings in the cinema - yes! There was an outcry in the era of silent films when several portayed nudity. When the talkies arrived, the Hays Code arrived too, forbidding nudity onscreen. So, when the film script called for nudity, flash-colored body stockings were employed to circumvent the Code i.e when an actress is required to go 'skinny dipping'. The irony here is that once the fabric becomes wet, body stockings become more transparent, so the absolute requirements of the code would be met, but the results would be far more tittilating than the Hays Code intended!
..or bodystockings & belly dancing! Belly dancing, as popularised (not always accurately!) in 1920's cinema, is still pracised today. Although Turkey permits skimpy attire, in Egpyt belly dancers wear bodystockings - failure to cover their abdomen will result in their arrest!
Even pop music has not been immune to the body stockings' allure. Take Cher's appearances in her 1987 pop video I Found Someone and 1989 If I Could Turn Back Time - the video where she strutted her stuff on a US warship, as DVD Times stated "...Cher wears that outfit, the one where she’s got her knickers neither on top of or underneath her tights..." i.e a bodystocking!
